Professional Photography Commissions

Like most things, quality and price work in tandem~ the best quality images take more time, skill & effort, but are well worth it when representing your business brand.
— Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten‼︎

Since nobody likes surprises, please review the information below which summarizes the commission of professional photographic service or the licensing of existing copyrighted imagery:

★ Commissioning NEW business imagery has two parameters involved in it’s pricing, the CREATIVE FEE  (labor & equipment costs) and the usage rights LICENSE FEE (how & where images are utilized), plus any project specific expenses.

  • The Creative fee reflects the time & expenses involved to create custom business images [pre-production (preparation, planning, scouting), production (photoshoot, personnel, props, ctc) and post-production (Image processing, preview & delivery)].

  • The usage rights license fee reflects a commercial photographs’ brand-promotional value based on how broadly it is utilized; ie. the market value of a custom photo appearing in a local newspaper (seen by 25 thousand readers) is not as valuable as the same photo appearing in the Wall Street Journal (seen by 2.5 million readers). How and where images are used to promote your business therefore determines part of the final cost involved in commissioning professional photography- that way you only pay for the usage rights you actually need.

★ When licensing rights to existing imagery, the fee is based on its production value (total cost of creation) and then scaled for one or more categories of the usage needed

Multi-Party Assignment Cost Share Program Terms

Multi-Party Assignment Cost Share program where industry professionals who partner on design-build projects can also collaborate on photography commissions for added value. This program offers the benefit of sharing the images (usage rights) and the photography fees while still providing individual company invoicing for business expensing along with discounts for all shared photos. See more info here

This mutually beneficial scenario requires that each project partner be named in advance of a project photoshoot in order to allow each party the opportunity to select individually specific views as well as those shared-in-common for production of a collaborative shot list. Thereby allowing SQP to make a B2B connection with other industry professionals in the hopes of working with new clients on future photography assignments.

Project partners interested in finished photos (after photo production) can license the images directly through SQP based on their specific usage needs, similar to how an editorial or advertising client would license existing photos. SQP offer a full menu of licensing options to match usage needs and budgets.

Color management

Just a quick background on the color workflow we utilize

One of the challenges photographing interior architecture is often the various sources of light present during photography and all the various color casts they may contain, everything from installed incandescent bulbs emitting yellow-green hues to ambient window daylight that may be reflecting off either (or both) interior surfaces or exterior surfaces like decking, home siding, lawns and even various skies have casts.

In order to help neutralize all of these elements, every image starts with photographing an X-rite Color Checker® which is used to calibrate the camera’s sensor to each scene’s unique light. The very first step in post-production is creating a ICC color profile for every shot, assigning that profile to all exposures and then processing images on a regularly calibrated professional Eizo monitor to ensure color consistency.
